Once, a rich man came and sat near the Prophet (s.a.w.w) A little while later, a poor man entered and sat beside him. The rich man quickly pulled his robe closer. This action displeased the Prophet (s.a.w.w.) and he asked the man, " Why did you move your robe? Were you afraid you would catch some of his poverty or that some of your wealth would go to him?"

The man looked ashamed and said "No."

The Prophet (s.a.w.w.) asked him why he had acted in such a way then.

The rich man replied, "O Prophet, I am sorry for my action and want to offer this man half of my wealth."

The Prophet (s.a.w.w.) asked the poor man, "Do you accept his money?"

The poor man refused. Surprised, the rich man asked him why, to which the poor man replied: "Because I am afraid I may then become as proud as you."
